Our Project Update

At long last we are ready to submit our development application to the City of Rockingham.  We embarked on the Baldivis Project after the Shire of Murray closed down our Furnissdale operations due to zoning concerns.  In mid 2022 the Department of Planning offered us the use of part of a block they owned.  We applied for an Animal Welfare Grant to fund the development application.  There was then a long delay before the grant was approved.  In the meantime the contractors who quoted for the environmental report withdrew.  Once the plans where drawn up we decided to carryout the noise assessment before proceeding further.  If we couldn't meet the noise criteria there was no point proceeding.  The noise assessment was within the required parameters, so we went looking for contractor to finalize the application.  We were unable to find one that was within our budget, so we undertook the work ourselves.  This was time consuming, but now it is done and we are about to submit the development application.

Our RSPCA Award

The Western Australian Poultry Rescue Association was recognized by the RSPCA WA in their 2022 Animal Welfare Awards.  Our Association was awarded a Bronze Level Community Action Award "in recognition of commendable actions to improve the lives of animals".  We are very proud of the award and grateful for the acknowledgement that our work is important.  Many families have entrusted us with their family pets so that they could be re-homed in a suitable environment as opposed to having them put down.

There are many families who purchase fertile eggs so their children can enjoy the experience of raising chick.  These birds become much loved family pet.  When some of them turn out to be roosters the families are devastated to find out that local government regulations prohibit the keeping of roosters in an urban area.  Prior to the establishment of Rid Rooster these families where forced to put the birds down, which was traumatic for the children.  Thanks to our Association, they now have an alternative that allows their family pet to be re-homed.

We Re-home Roosters

Have you been raising chicks in the Metro area only to find some are roosters that are not allowed in an urban setting?  Are they  Family pets that you would like to send to a loving home?  Rid Rooster could be your answer.  We have successfully re-homed more than  one thousand birds since we commenced operations in 2020.  We are unable to receive birds at the moment as we awaiting  development approval, but we have a re-homing service running on our Facebook page.  If you need a bird displayed on the site text Rachel on 0425 306 111 and she will help you.
