The Western Australian Poultry Rescue Association is planning to develop a purpose built holding facility to house poultry awaiting re-homing.  After the Shire of Murray closed down our Furnissdale operation we went looking for a new home.  At first we had little success, until the Department of Planning offered us the use of part of a block they owned in Stakehill Road, Baldivis.  The Department acquired the land due to the conservation value of the undisturbed bushland on a large area of the block.  Part of the site had been cleared for farming and has no conservation value.  This part of the block is zoned rural and our proposed development is permitted under the City of Rockingham Town Planning Scheme.  The facility will have capacity to hold up to two hundred birds, although we believe it will rarely be used to full capacity.  It will have ten roosts with runs, a quarantine shed, a large workshop and storage room and an office block.  The plans have been drawn up and approved by our Association.  The next step is finalizing the environmental and noise abatement reports and preparing a bushfire management plan.  Once completed we will be able to submit a development application to the City of Rockingham.
