The Western Australian Poultry Rescue Association was recognized by the RSPCA WA in their 2022 Animal Welfare Awards. Our 
Association was awarded a Bronze Level Community Action Award "in recognition of commendable actions to improve the lives of animals". We are very proud of the award and grateful for the acknowledgement that our work is important. Many families have entrusted us with their family pets so that they could be re-homed in a suitable environment as opposed to having them put down.
There are many families who purchase fertile eggs so their children can enjoy the experience of raising chick. These birds become much loved family pet. When some of them turn out to be roosters the families are devastated to find out that local government regulations prohibit the keeping of roosters in an urban area. Prior to the establishment of Rid Rooster these families where forced to put the birds down, which was traumatic for the children. Thanks to our Association, they now have an alternative that allows their family pet to be re-homed.
